The sub board (CA11 Sub Assy, 2119909) is fitted to Epson printers. It provides the electronic control of a machine sub-system and passes the signals to the main board.

Its manufacturer designation is "BOARD ASSY., SUB" (Sub Board Assy), item 204 on the "CA11-ELEC-011" exploded view, CA11 being the Epson code for the Stylus Pro 7900/9900 platform. According to the Epson service manual, it "relays the connection between the Main Board Assy and electric parts/components": the two print head flex cables, the PG HP sensor, the PW sensor, the Ink Mark sensor, the CR encoder and, on the x900/x890 only, the Ink Selector connect to it. The current Epson reference is 2126128.

Errors 1A52 and 1A53 relate to the "Sub Board B" (2124763) and "Sub Board C" (2124764) boards, also designated "BOARD ASSY., SUB" by Epson, and not this board.

• Handle the board with an antistatic wrist strap. On a 1A51 error, first check and reseat the three FFC cables between the Sub Board and the main board (CN100, CN101, CN104) before replacing the board.
• A head flex cable inserted askew on CN105 / CN106 destroys the head circuit or blows the main board fuse (1A39 error): check the insertion of both head flex cables on reassembly.
• After replacement, the "Colorimetric Calibration" (Color ID) from the service program is mandatory.

Function

• Receives the two print head flex cables (CN105 / CN106), the PG HP sensor (CN111), the PW media-width sensor (CN112), the Ink Mark sensor (CN113) and the CR encoder (CN114)

Signs of wear

• Service call 1A51 "Hardware I2C communication error (between elements on ASIC and SUB)": communication fault between the main board and the Sub Board
• Service call 1A39 "Head error": head circuit damaged by a misinserted head flex cable on the Sub Board, or a blown main board fuse
• Possible loss of the connected sensors (PG HP, PW, Ink Mark, CR encoder): carriage position or media width errors when the board or its flex cables are at fault
• Sub-system not driven
• Electronic errors
• Loss of internal communication
• Erratic behaviour or machine stops

Replacing this part restores the machine to proper working order.
