Product description

2145686 – Sub board (Board Assy Sub AID) – Epson Stylus Pro

The sub board (Board Assy Sub AID, 2145686) is fitted to Epson printers. It provides the electronic control of a machine sub-system and passes the signals to the main board.

Its manufacturer designation is "BOARD ASSY., SUB AID", "AID Board" in the Epson service manual: "the board to perform the AID function which detects dot missing automatically", i.e. the automatic missing-nozzle detection board (automatic nozzle check). It carries an onboard high-voltage module that biases the "flushing box" to electrically detect ejected droplets. Reference 2145686 supersedes 2123402.

Technical specifications

  • OEM reference: 2145686
  • Manufacturer: Epson
  • Part type: Sub board
  • Manufacturer designation: "BOARD ASSY., SUB AID" ("AID Board")
  • Supersedes: 2123402 ("was 2123402")
  • Connectors: CN1: FFC cable to the main board (CN23); CN2: black/white high-voltage cable to the "flushing box"
  • Location: Top right of the machine, under the "AID Board Cover" (2 M3×8 screws), next to the "Ink System Unit" (remove the control panel, the "IC cover R", the right maintenance tank and the right cover)
  • High voltage: Onboard high-voltage module (current of a few hundred µA): do not touch the board while powered
  • Adjustment after replacement: "AID Function Check" (5.6.1) via the Epson service program
  • Note: The Stylus Pro 7900 / 9900 compatibility (via the former reference 2123402, board marked "CA03") and the Japanese PX-H8000 / PX-H10000 designations rest only on listings: not retained for lack of an OEM source or a second distributor. The alternative references 2135467 and 1546325 are cited by only one distributor, without detail. Epson does not explain the meaning of the AID acronym; the "Automatic Image Detection" interpretation seen at one distributor is unsourced.

Compatibility & use

  • Epson STYLUS PRO 7890
  • Epson STYLUS PRO 9890
  • Epson STYLUS PRO 7908
  • Epson PX-H7000
  • Epson STYLUS PRO 9908
  • Disconnect CN2 before removal and do not touch the board while powered (high-voltage module). On reassembly, if the CN2 wires are visible, route the white wire over the black one.
  • On an AID fault (0010, D131), first clean the ink build-up around the "flushing box" (current leakage, the primary cause per the manual) and check the AID flex cable to the main board; the "Ink System Unit" is the second recourse, the AID Board the third.
  • Two board and cover shapes exist depending on the production date (old type / new type, a design change introduced with the x890): visually check the fitted shape before ordering.
  • After the exchange, install the latest firmware if D131 appears, then run the "AID Function Check" from the service program.

Function

  • Board for the AID function that automatically detects missing nozzles: "the board to perform the AID function which detects dot missing automatically" (Epson service manual)
  • Biases the "flushing box" via an onboard high-voltage module; ejected droplets are detected there electrically
  • Ensures the electronic control of a sub-system
  • Passes the signals to the main board
  • Acts as an interface between the firmware and the hardware

Signs of wear

  • Maintenance request 0010 "Communication with the AID Board is not established": AID FFC cable cut or disconnected, current leakage around the "flushing box", or a faulty onboard high-voltage module
  • Maintenance request 4000: all nozzles found clogged twice in a row (head, AID cable or AID Board connection)
  • Maintenance request 8000: electrical noise detected during the AID operation
  • Service call D131 "AID error": AID voltage not reached (leakage) or firmware not supporting the fitted AID Board version
  • Sub-system not driven
  • Electronic errors
  • Loss of internal communication
  • Erratic behaviour or machine stops

Replacing this part restores the machine to proper working order.
